- Summary
- From the jacket of book: Ship without a crew: Here is an adventure story founded upon a mystery famous in the annals of the sea - the strange case of the Mary Celeste, a brig discovered adrift and deserted. The tramp steamer Araby, moored to her dock in San Francisco, was making ready to sail when up the gangway came a youth in search of work aboard her. With him came a mystery that flung Tom Jarvis, the tattooed captain, and third mate Tod Moran into a series of adventures that carried them far down in the South Seas to the island of Tahiti. Who was it aboard the old freighter who sent out secret radio messages to Papeete? What was the meaning of the finding of the deserted schooner Wind-rider adrift one hundred miles from her port? And why was the mysterious occurrence so like the famous case of the Mary Celeste? These questions keep Tod Moran busy until his ship finally reaches Papeete, called by many travelers the worst port in the whole South Pacific. And from there on occur adventures on the islands that keep the youthful third mate in action
